Well folks....sad news. We had to divert from Devil's Tower in Wyoming and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota :-( I am very sad about this because we were just oh so close! But, we made it as far as we could on highway 25 until they closed the road. There was a 100 car pile up! Yes, you read it right - a HUNDRED cars! Apparantly, the road has 4 inches of ice and the wind was so strong, it actually blew the cars right off the road (so we were told by a gas station attendant). So, with the highway closed for God knows how long, we were forced to head back south again to Cheyenne and then east on 80. Route 80 is bad as well - covered in mostly snow with some icy patches. So, it took us about 3 hours to drive about 50 miles or so. We are both exhausted; it is quite tense driving in these conditions - maybe I will finally begin to like desert life???? Nahhhh! We decided to call it a night and are staying a slightly classier hotel than last night :-) There are no deer or bear in the room although I should mention that a rather large truck with the large horned carcass of an animal did breeze by us on 80 on our way here. We decided to eat at the steakhouse across the street tonight since we can only assume that fresh meat would be served! Mooooooo!!!!
Peace in the pasture!
